Understanding Colombia to build its future.

We analyze media, security, education and industrialization with evidence, to strengthen citizens’ judgment and expand opportunities for the next generations.

Media Observatory

Information shapes how we understand the country and its possibilities.

The media help decide which issues we discuss and how we interpret them. Their editorial choices can add context, bring problems to light and broaden perspectives; they can also reinforce stereotypes or give disproportionate weight to certain events.

We examine those choices and their effects on public debate, especially how narratives about Colombia influence collective trust and the expectations of younger generations.

  • Relevance of topics
  • Context and sources
  • Representation of the regions
  • Misinformation and corrections
  • Automated analysis

Security Observatory

Security lets people live, work and take part freely.

Protecting life and the effective presence of institutions are essential conditions for citizens’ well-being. Understanding insecurity means looking at crime, at the experiences of communities and at the State’s ability to prevent threats and respond to them.

We propose an approach that connects prevention, criminal investigation, justice, territorial control and institutional trust, and that judges policies by their effects on people and the sustainability of their results.

  • Crime and perception
  • Prevention and protection
  • Justice in the regions
  • Police and armed forces
  • Policy outcomes

Education System Observatory

Education develops people and builds national capabilities.

Education shapes how we understand our surroundings, live together and take part in society. Assessing it means looking at learning outcomes as well as real opportunities for access, retention and personal development.

We examine the conditions that make learning possible and the link between education, science and production, so that technicians, professionals and researchers can develop Colombia’s own solutions.

  • Teacher training
  • Infrastructure
  • Student well-being
  • Regional gaps
  • Science and production

Industrialization Observatory

A country that produces is a country that decides its future.

We research and explain how Colombia’s industrialization is progressing: whether the country is building the industrial, technological and human capabilities it needs to turn its knowledge and resources into its own goods and solutions.

And we take the actions within our reach to raise a voice that defends the country’s long-term goals, beyond changes of government and short-term circumstances.

What we will track

  • Industry’s share of the economy
  • Technological and engineering capabilities
  • Domestic suppliers
  • Public procurement
  • Continuity of industrial policy
  • Technical training and jobs
  • Value-added exports

Every week we measure how the country is portrayed.

CRI · Country RelevanceSI · Sentiment

The Country Relevance Indicator measures how closely each outlet’s news is connected to Colombia’s issues (from 0 to 1). The Sentiment Indicator measures whether its coverage leans more positive or negative (from −1 to +1). The net sentiment is (positive stories − negative stories) ÷ total stories: +1 means all coverage was positive, −1 all negative, and 0 balanced.
